How to get there

IMPORTANT NOTE (JULY 2019)

I AM THINKING OF REMOVING THIS PAGE (save maybe for the addresses and postcodes) AS MOST PEOPLE HAVE ACCESS TO GOOGLE MAPS AND/OR SATNAVS.
IF YOU DO USE THIS PAGE FOR DIRECTIONS THEN PLEASE, EACH TIME, LET ME (Len Cooke) KNOW.
I WILL REVIEW USE NEXT YEAR.

NOTE; IF USING GOOGLE MAPS MANY CLUBS CAN BE FOUND SIMPLY BY TYPING THE CLUB NAME

(e.g. Wokingham Bowling Club) INTO THE LOCATION BOX

Clubs with websites are shown with a line under their name. Click on the name to go to the website.

Bracknell

Church Road, Bracknell, RG12 1EH  Telephone: 01344 423494
Distance from WBC: 6 miles, approximate travel time: 15 minutes
Parking: Alongside the green. There are insufficient spaces so park where you can even if this means boxing someone in - if they want to get out before you, they soon shout apparently! Car sharing is strongly recommended. There is little chance of a parking space on surrounding roads and parking on grass verges may well result in a ticket!

Take the A329 to Bracknell and follow the ring road to the large roundabout (still generally known as the Met Office roundabout). Take the fourth exit into Church Road, passing the Wokingham and Bracknell College on your left. Take the next turn left, then left again into Tytherton. The bowling green is at the end of this short road.

Burghfield

Address:  James Lane, Burghfield RG30 3RS Telephone: None
Distance from WBC: 15 miles, approximate travel time: 30 minutes
Parking: Good

The club is now located within the Burghfield Community Sports Association site and you are likely to see signs to this rather than the bowls club itself.

There is ample parking at the site and access to the green is past the front of the main building to the patio beyond from which there is a pathway to the green via a pedestrian gate. Currently the club does not have its own clubhouse and it uses the changing rooms and lounge bar of the BCSA building.

Desborough

NEW Address; 10 Green Lane, Maidenhead SL6 1XZ Telephone; 01628 629403
Distance; 12 miles, 25 minutes approximately
Parking: Excellent

You need to get to the end of the A308M motorway just south of Maidenhead. You can do this using the motorway or go by the side roads as described below*.

Once you arrive at this point take the road (A308) into central Maidenhead (beware speed camera!) and turn right at the first roundabout you meet . Go down this road (Stafferton Way) past Lidl and over the small mini-roundabout. After about a further 200 yards  turn right into Green Lane just before the next roundabout. About 50 yards along Green Lane bear right at the T junction and the club is about 100 yards on your left just after passing over the small "Bailey" bridge. You may need to buzz at the barrier to gain entry to the car park.

*To get to the end of the A308M by side roads, take the road to Hurst from the club (Twyford Road) and at the top of the hill turn right onto Forest Road. Take this for 4 miles (going through Binfield) until you come to the traffic light controlled T junction at Warfield. Turn left here and go for 2 miles until you come to the junction with the A330 where you turn left. Following this for approx 3 miles will bring you to the roundabout at the end of the A308M. Then follow directions in paragraph above.

ROUTE via A4.
If you go via the A4 turn right at the first roundabout when entering Maidenhead town centre (i.e. onto the A308 Fascati Way). Go under the railway bridge and turn left into Stafferton Way at the roundabout immediately after. Then follow directions above (2nd paragraph, 2nd sentence on)

Turn left here (it's the first left since the TRL roundabout) and the bowls club and adjacent car park are 400 yards along on the right.

2. Take the Easthampstead Road over the Star Lane Level crossing. Continue along this road for several miles until you meet the Old Wokingham Road. The club has said in the past that due to limited parking on south side many visitors cross over the river and park in Wolsey Road (after crossing bridge bear right into Church Street and bear right again into Gosbrook Road – Wolsey Road is 20 yards on the right). It is not known whether this still (2019) holds true. There is a ferry across to the island (from both banks).

Take the first turn right immediately once inside the gate (ignore the small sign saying it isn't a through road).  The bowling green is at the bottom of this road - with the car park  and the club house (which is the university social club) right at the end along a short drive. Note this near parking only has room for 14 cars but, after 5pm, you can use any other car park and there should be ample parking further back along the road.

Access to the green is through a small wire gate in the hedge to the right of the clubhouse. Changing facilities are in a gazebo next to the green. It is advisable to turn up dressed for the match.
